This piece was inspired by the Nepenthes plant, or bucket plant. The majority of my art is inspired by plants and the natural world, and I have always been fascinated by carnivorous plants that seem to somehow cross the boundary of the plant world and take on more animalistic characteristics. How did these plants develop over time to survive in nutrient poor environments? How did they learn to capture flies and insects in order to acquire the necessary nutrients for survival? What do we, as humans, have in common with them and their natural resilience?
